'India seeks Israel's help, the target is tap water to every Indian by 2024'

India has sought Israel's help to ensure tap water to each family by 2024. Water power minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat is visiting here to fulfill this goal of the Modi government. Newly appointed Ambassador of India Sanjeev Singla gave this information. Shekhawat will be on a three-day visit to Israel from 17 to 19 November.

Significantly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in his address on Independence Day that by 2024 more than 3.5 lakh crore rupees will be spent in the coming years under the "Jal Jeevan Mission" to ensure water supply from pipes in homes.

India's newly appointed Ambassador to Israel, Singla, told PTI, "During our Prime Minister's historic visit to Israel in July 2017, India and Israel agreed to forge a strategic partnership in the water and agriculture sector." The Government of India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is giving top priority to the conservation, development, and management of water resources.

Singla, who was Prime Minister Modi's personal secretary, said, "The visit of Water Power Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat is important as both countries will explore possible areas of further cooperation and concrete results in this direction." This is also in line with the Prime Minister's vision of ensuring tap water to every family in India by 2024 under the Water Life Mission. "

It is noteworthy that Israel has made water recycling an integral part of everyday life. The Environment Ministry said that more than 80 percent of the water released from homes in Israel is recycled. According to Israel's Water Authority, this ratio is four times higher than any other country.

During her visit, Shekhawat will hold talks with the Energy Minister of Israel, Yuval Steinitz, who also has charge of the Department of Natural Resources like Water. He will also interact with prominent experts in the field of water management, some Israeli companies operating in the region and other related stakeholders.

Shekhawat will also co-chair the India-Israel strategic partnership meeting on water. During his visit, five important areas have been identified for in-depth discussion. He will also be the keynote speaker at the WATEC event on 19 November. A large delegation from Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, and Delhi is also accompanying the Union Cabinet Minister. A large number of Indian businessmen will also participate in these programs.

The Energy and Foreign Ministries of Israel have expressed excitement over the first visit of the Minister of Hydropower of India to here. The Israeli ministries said in a statement, "Water is the source of life. Every human has the right to get water and we are partners in achieving this goal. "

Some important areas such as contaminated water purification, recycling and reuse, water use efficiency, water evaluation, measurement and management, groundwater assessment and recharge, drinking water and salt removal from water have been identified for potential cooperation. According to industry sources, exports of water-saving Israeli technologies have increased by $ 1.5 billion in a year.
