Air pollution is affecting the nature of teenagers, leading to increased stress

The new generation of youth and especially teenagers are getting frustrated easily and in large numbers. They are facing difficulties in maintaining relationships or they are finding themselves neglected or more aggressive. This can also be caused by air pollution. It has been claimed in a report published by Stanford University in the Journal of the American Psychosomatic Society, according to which pollution is not only affecting health but it is causing worrying mental conditions among the teenagers.

According to researcher Jonas G. Miller, pollution conditions are further worsening teenagers already under stress. During the study, the adolescents underwent physical and mental tests, their heart rate and skin electrodermal activity were measured. Many questions were also raised regarding their living and nature. A record of PM2.5 pollutant levels in the places where they live is included in the study.

In places where PM2.5 levels are high, negative mental conditions were found higher among adolescents living in them. They had more symptoms of anxiety and depression. They also found it more imbalanced in terms of social behavior and temperament. The conclusion stated that air pollution is negatively impacting the growing body and health of adolescents. Due to this, their physical, as well as mental growth, is also being damaged.

Warning for India

While India is considered to be the largest country in the world in terms of the number of teenagers and youth, our air pollution figures include our 10 to 13 cities in the world's 20 most polluted cities according to the statistics released from time to time. This air pollution can show negative effects on the mental health of our new generation.
